This cake is a quick, yummy dessert that's a little more dressed up than a plain box mix. For an even richer, deep flavor, replace the 1/2 cup of water with the same amount of cold, black coffee (the darker the better!) You won't taste the coffee when it's baked, it just adds a richer flavor to the cake. So yummy!

For me, this cake was definitely not the "best-ever". If you are looking for a dense choco.fudge cake, keep looking. I followed the recipe exactly. Yes, choco. flavor is intense, but the texture was not fine enough. I thought the oil was a bit high also. If you're in a hurry, go with this...If you have time, try a made from scratch version.

this has definitely become our favorite chocolate birthday cake. I have made many times. I use mini chocolate chips instead of chocolate squares. I also make chocolate frosting rather than the cool whipped topping. <<< Response from Kraft Kitchens Expert, Lori ~ Thank you for your rating! This is always a hit. I use a dark chocolate box cake mix and add extra chocolate to the batter. Amazing.

Great recipee. To make it even easier.. for the bitter sweet chocolate.. use chocolate chips. For the cake you can chop if you want but they disolve anyway, works well and is easier for the frosting.
