Slow-Cooker Saucy Swiss Steak

Throw together the fixin's in the morning and enjoy a steak-and-peppers main simmering in a tomato-based sauce for dinner. Melty Swiss cheese is the clincher.

What You Need

1/4

cup KRAFT Zesty Italian Dressing

boneless beef chuck steak (1 lb.), cut into 4 pieces

1/4

cup flour

1/4

cup tomato paste

can (14-1/2 oz.) diced tomatoes, undrained

1/2

cup beef broth

green pepper, chopped

cups hot mashed potatoes

1/2

cup shredded KRAFT Swiss Cheese

Make It

HEAT dressing in large nonstick skillet on medium-high heat. Meanwhile, coat meat with flour; gently shake off excess flour. Add meat to skillet; cook 2 to 3 min. on each side or until evenly browned on both sides. Remove from heat.

COMBINE tomato paste, tomatoes and broth in slow cooker. Add meat and peppers; cover with lid. Cook on LOW 8 to 10 hours (or on HIGH 3 to 4 hours).

SERVE over potatoes; top with cheese.

This was so yummy!! I added the onions as a previous reviewer suggested, very good. I think I will add mushrooms (husband and I are mushroom nuts). I served it with rice, which I added straight to the crock-pot about an hour before I was going to serve the meal. It was a super success.

This is the best and easiest Swiss Steak recipe ever. I have made this several times as a formal dinner to rave reviews from my guests. The only tweeking I did was add the left over salad dressing to the pot. This really increased the saucy flavor. I also pounded the meat to tenderize it a little more than just cooking all day. The next time I make it, I'm thinking of adding a litttle dry red wine, like a Barolo. thanks so much Kraft. This is a real keeper.

This was delicious!! The meat was very tender, although I might experiment with different cuts of meat in the future just for variation. For some reason, the green pepper was very bitter tasting...I had to pick them all out! I'm not sure if my pepper was bad (it was crisp and perfectly healthy looking when I chopped it) or if the flavor of that and the other ingredients just don't mix well together (if that makes sense)...otherwise I loved the tomato-y flavor of the sauce!!!

I made this for my in-laws and they loved it, it was so tender and moist, the sauce was delicious. I didn't have swiss cheese so I used cheddar instead and I served it with sour cream mashed potatoes.

Very good. I made no changes to the recipe. My husband and son loved it. I have made this several times and will make it again. I like slow cooker recipes because they don't heat up my house on a hot and humid day.
