What You Need

pkg. (2-layer size) white cake mix

pkg. (3 oz.) JELL-O Strawberry Flavor Gelatin

cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream

2/3

cup powdered sugar

tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed

1-1/2

cups sliced fresh strawberries

Make It

HEAT oven to 350°F.

GREASE and flour 2 (8- or 9-inch) round pans. Prepare cake batter as directed on package; pour half into medium bowl. Add dry gelatin mix; stir until well blended. Spoon half the white batter and half the pink batter, side by side, into each prepared pan; swirl gently with spoon.

BAKE 30 min. Cool 30 min. in pans. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.

MIX sour cream and sugar in medium bowl until well blended. Gently stir in COOL WHIP. Place 1 cake layer on plate; spread top with 1 cup of the COOL WHIP mixture. Cover with 1 cup berries and remaining cake layer. Frost with remaining COOL WHIP mixture; top with remaining berries.

How to Prevent Air Bubbles

To release any air bubbles from the cake batter, lightly tap filled cake pans on counter before baking. Any small air bubbles will rise to the surface.

How to Swirl Batter

For best results, use a teaspoon to swirl the two colors of batter together. Be careful to not swirl the batters too much or the cakes will be a solid pink color instead.

I followed the directions and my cake baked unevenly in the pans--many depressions and raised portions...does it have to do with the gelatin mix altering the batter to act strangely? Also, 30 min is too long to bake! I got a "crust" and it turned out too brown for my liking. I would time it to 27 min and check on it.

I just made this for Easter dessert/mother-in-law's birthday and we all loved it. It was such a nice light dessert on such a warm day in the south! Will definitely recommend to others and will be making again.

I followed the directions and greased and floured my pans, but the red parts of the cake still stuck. I ended up making this into a 3-layer trifle since the cake didn't come out clean. It was still beautiful and tasted good, but didn't turn out the way it should have.

i made this for a group party and it was a hit! next time i am going to try and "swirl" it more, i was scared it would all blend so only the middle of the cakes were swirled. i was a bit nervous about the sour cream icing, but i plan on making that for many other cakes! it was the best!

I LOVE LOVE this recipe! My in-laws thought this was a store bought cake, it was that good! It's not exactly a super quick cake to make, but it's soooo worth it!

i loved this recipe i recomend the icing but i actually used 2 white cake mixes instead of the 2 layered mix cause i could not find it

This cake is good every time I make it it's a hit from young to old. My daughter had me make if for her 7th birthday for her she loves it so much. Every holiday or get together it has to be made. It is a family recipe now. She loves the icing 2 and request it on all other cakes and cupcakes.
