What You Need

pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened

1/2

cup (1 stick) butter, softened

2/3

cup granulated sugar

eggs

tsp. vanilla

cups flour

1/2

tsp. CALUMET Baking Powder

1/3

cup PLANTERS Walnut Pieces, finely chopped

3/4

cup strawberry preserves

tsp. powdered sugar

Make It

PREHEAT oven to 350ºF. Beat cream cheese, butter and granulated sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Separate 1 of the eggs; set egg white aside for later use. Add yolk, second (whole) egg and vanilla to cream cheese mixture; mix well. Gradually add combined flour and baking powder, beating until well blended after each addition.

DIVIDE dough into four equal pieces. Roll each piece into 12x1-inch log; place, 2 inches apart, on large ungreased baking sheet. Use handle of wooden spoon or fingers to make depression down length of each log, about 1/2 inch wide and 1/2 inch deep. Beat reserved egg white with fork; brush over dough. Sprinkle with walnuts. Fill depressions with preserves, using about 3 Tbsp. preserves in each log.

BAKE 25 to 27 min. or until edges are lightly browned. Transfer to wire racks; cool slightly. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cut each log into 12 diagonal slices.

Butter is the preferred choice in this recipe for true buttery flavor, but you can also prepare the recipe with margarine. Stock up when butter is on sale and freeze it in its original carton placed in a freezer-weight resealable bag for up to 4 months.

As others have said, this did become quite sticky and made rolling the logs a bit difficult. Flour, flour, flour is my suggestion. As you roll it out, keep rolling it in flour on your counter and it will be much easier to work with. I thought it turned out good. Not my favorite holiday cookie, but I still enjoyed it. (My boyfriend said it tasted like pop tarts but better! And he's very picky with desserts, so that's a good sign!)

It could be that I didn't do something right but I wasn't too impressed with this. The taste is a little odd and it doesn't look pretty. I know mine's not going to look like the picture (far from it) but it really doesn't look appetizing.

Scruptuous! An easy recipe that yields lots of delicious, melt-in-your-mouth cookies. If you bake cookies as a holiday gift, this is perfect! And, your family will enjoy them, too.

This recipe was somewhat disappointing. The dough baked up like a thick flavorless kolacky, not like a cookie. The preparation time was more than I would do again considering the results. I'll stick with jam prints.

Very easy. Fat free cream cheese & margarine work well as substitutes. I brought this to a large gathering and not one was left, I also had a group of women begging for the recipe.

I had no problem with making these cookies. In my family I am known as the one who can't bake. Everyone was shocked since I made these. These were so easy and delicious!!!!

I loved these cookies and, for the first time in 42 years of marriage, my husband decided to help. I made the dough and found it to be quite sticky and he said he would shape the cookies. He did and he then finished the whole recipe except for the jam filling. Even more to my amazement, he took most of the cookies to the fire department where he is a volunteer and they loved them but didn't believe he made them. We will make them again.
