It was very good, but with my substitutions it could have easily been a non-slowcooker recipe.
I used canned black eyed peas because I feared getting them well cooked in time. I forgot to add the cummin, but it had good zing without it. I used some sandwich ham that I already had on hand, and remembered ham doesn't really do well in the crock pot; it kinda takes on a weird texture. And I used some kale greens I froze from last fall.
So next time with the canned black eyed peas I'll just cook the bacon a little more before adding veggies and then heat it all up on the stove and maybe just keep warm in the crockpot.
But overall, it was super tasty! Even the kids liked it on rice.
