Washington Apple Cake

Washington Apple Cake recipe
Here’s a cake George Washington would approve of. A moist apple cake served with sweet sour cream icing, this is a presidentially flavorful dessert.

I made this for my family and in-laws, cousins etc. They loved it and have repeatedly asked for it again. My mother is diabetic so I used sugar free cake mix and sugar free jello pudding and left off the icing/glaze on hers but it was just as good! I am getting ready to go get the ingrediants to make another for this weekend.

This recipe was good, but it did not live up to what was written in the other reviews. Similar to the other reviews, my cake also stuck to the pan. I think that the apples were really too heavy to be suspended in the cake. I did like the flavors of the cake. Next time I'd try to do it with only 1 chopped up apple, and add in the walnuts like in the other reviews. This cake also tasted better after it sat for 2 days, and it definetly needs the sweet glaze.

My husband chose this recipe for his Birthday cake. It was delicious. I used Roma apples because that's what I had on hand. I did have the problem with the cake sticking but I think it was due to the fact that I didn't get enough cooking spray in the pan. I would definitely make this again.

This is a good cake. Made it for two family Thanksgiving desserts and everyone liked it. First time made it per recipe. Second time, used one less apple, added 3/4 cup pecans and more cinnamon (1+1/2 tsp). Liked it much better the second time.

I tried this on the staff at the office and they loved it! I added some orange extract to the glaze. I used Honey Crisp apples. I'm baking it to take to Thanksgiving to join my pumpkin cheese cake and cranberry/orange cheese cake. I highly recomment this cake receipe!

Cake was very good. Only problem was cake kind of fell apart after i removed it from the pan. Any idea what might have caused this? I followed recipe to a tee...........

This really was a wonderful recipe and a perfect way to use up those apples from the orchard! I baked it in a 9x13 pan, doubling the glaze, and added chopped walnuts on top. My husband also raved about it and all of his co-workers wanted the recipe!

This cake is sooooo moist and yummy. I used reduced fat sour cream, 6 small MacIntosh apples and a fully rounded tsp of cinnamon. Mine baked in a bundt pan in about 50 minutes. I will definitely fix this again - it is one of my husband's new favorites and says it is worthy enough for company.

This is a great and easy recipe t use up old apples that would soon be headed for the trash. I had an assortment of different apples and added some lemon juice to them to make them tart. I used a lemon cake mix too. I didn't have a bundt pan so I baked it in a 9 x 13 and it turned out great! Baked in 35 min. Needed to double the frosting though. Used lemon juice in the frosting instead of water. Next time I make it, I'm going to add chopped walnuts to it.
