Summer holidays: Good for picnics, not so great for baking. Avoid heating up the kitchen by combining Jell-O Gelatin, cake and berries for a truly patriotic treat.

Add the fruit and whip cream right before serving. I also use just white cake instead of pound cake.

My family loved this recipe, especially my son-in-law who wanted me to make one just for him next time I made it.

I made this last year for the fourth to bring as dish to pass to a friends house....HUGE HIT! I altered it just a little and used 1 strawberry jello & the other one I used raspberry just for a little bit of contrast, it really enhanced the flavor. People actually asked if they could take a little home with them when they left.

My mother used to make a variation of this cake when I was little. Instead of buying premade cake, we use a white cake mix. You bake the cake in the casserole dish, after it has cooled, poke holes in the cake and pour semi-hard jello in the holes and over the top. Once it has completely firmed, decorate the top. My family prefers it this way.

My daughter, now 7, and I made this last year for Independence Day and my family LOVED it! She has asked to make this again this year, so I think we may have started a family tradition! It is very easy recipe to follow which makes it perfect for kids to help!

Being diabetic, I substituted sugar free jello and cool whip plus used a sugar free angel food cake instead of pound cake. It turned out great and I received complements from others who also needed to watch their intake of sugar.
