What You Need

lb. ground beef (95% lean ground chuck)

cup TACO BELL® HOME ORIGINALS® Thick 'N Chunky Salsa

cup rinsed canned black beans

Tbsp. chili powder

tsp. garlic powder

1-1/2

cups water

1/2

cup creamy wheat (enriched farina) hot cereal (1-min., 2-1/2-min. or 10-min. cook time), uncooked

1/2

cup KRAFT 2% Milk Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese

can (4 oz.) chopped green chiles, undrained

egg whites

Make It

HEAT oven to 350ºF.

BROWN meat in large skillet; drain. Stir in salsa, beans and seasonings; simmer on low heat 5 min., stirring occasionally. Spread onto bottom of 8-inch square baking dish.

BRING water to boil in medium saucepan. Stir in cereal; cook 1 to 3 min. or until thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in cheese, chiles and egg whites. Spread over meat mixture.

BAKE 20 to 25 min. or until golden brown.

my husband thought it was really good. it is reall fast to make. I made some changes, i used fresh extra spicy mexican salsa and used mrs dash spicy seasoning ..

This was very good! My husband loved it. It was a little soggy when I served it but still tasted great.

This takes more prep work than I usually want to do and it's worth it. I changed the spices a bit for my husband's taste. Don't expect a dry cornbread-like topping. It turns out like what you'd find in a tamale. (I guess that's where the title came from.) You must try this recipe. Just Delicious!

Use taco seasoning instead of chili powder, or seasoned black beans instead of regular black beans

I was intrigued by the Cream of Wheat, but it works. I tried the topping mixture before I put it on and I was pleasantly surprised. My husband loved it, but I didn't tell what it was until the end. He was surprised, too. We served it with sour cream. I think I will add Mexicorn next time to finish it off.

I made some substitutions, instead of black beans I used whole kernel corn and instead of cream of wheat I used Jiffy corn bread as the top. My family loved it.

I was worried about the cream of wheat, but it was quite good! It was a bit spicy for my kids, but I really liked the black beans. My adult friends liked it and it is low in calories.

My whole family liked it, but it works much better as a "dip" for tortilla chips. I tried it with the Cream of Wheat.
