I made this cake today and the frosting came out like thin icing. Does not look like the picture. I followed the recipe. Don't know what happened. Other than that cake was moist and flavorful. "Frosting" tasted good, too.
My grandma made this cake back in the depression. I've made this all my life and is the most treasured recipe I have. It a most requested cake in my family. Yum! Yum! Yum!!!
I have made this cake for years. It is easy and I always have the ingredients available to make a quick desert. I always add peanut butter to the batter and icing to taste and it makes is so much better.
This cake tastes like goo. I am a huge chocolate fan, but this was disgusting. A total waste of cocoa powder.

When I was growing up, this is the only chocolate cake recipe, my Mother ever used. It was our favorite, and it is still my favorite. I have made this recipe myself. I actually used this receipe for one of my college classes, where we had to do a demonstration for class. I shared it with the class, they all loved it. This recipe has been a part of my life for almost 50 years. Thank you Kraft Foods.
I found that the cake was really moist, almost wet inside. I had a clean toothpick and baked it the proper time, so I don't think I would make this again, it was too mushy, yet simple to make.
I substituted canned cream cheese frosting. It took less time and my family liked it better. I also changed the recipe to make cupcakes. Made 24 and baked for 17 minutes. They came out great
I have made this cake quite a few times. Everyone asks for it. I had people asking me to make this for other peoples birthdays! It's really easy too. The frosting is a lot of work and I think the stuff in the can is just as good so I swap out most of the time.
This was the most moist cake I have ever eaten. We also found that it tasted better the next day (not to say that it did not taste wonderful the day we made it) but it appears that the longer it sits the more moist it becomes and a richer taste as well. Highly recommend. My very picky sister was not going to eat it once she saw me put mayo in it but after listening to everyone rave about it she went ahead and tried a piece and now makes it regularly in her home.
