I love this soup! I've been making it for a few years now. I do not put the nutmeg in. Also, I used fat free cream cheese and 2% velveta which I think helps to lessen the heaviness of this soup.

Just made this for the first time. I doubled the recipe, so I made some minor adjustments, added another 1/8 tsp nutmeg and about 4oz of shredded sharp cheddar.. it was delish and all my family agreed!
