What You Need

cans (8 oz. each) pineapple slices in juice, undrained

cup packed brown sugar

1/3

cup butter or margarine, melted

maraschino cherries, halved

1/2

cup chopped PLANTERS Pecans

pkg. (2-layer size) yellow cake mix

env. DREAM WHIP Whipped Topping Mix

cup cold water

Make It

HEAT oven to 350°F.

DRAIN pineapple, reserving 2 Tbsp. juice; set aside. Mix sugar and butter in 13x9-inch pan. Arrange pineapple slices in pan, cutting if necessary to fit. Place cherry half, cut-side up, in center of each slice. Sprinkle with reserved pineapple juice, then nuts.

BEAT remaining ingredients with mixer until blended; pour over ingredients in pan.

BAKE 50 to 55 min. or until top springs back when lightly pressed; cool in pan 10 min. Invert cake onto plate. (Do not remove pan.) Let stand 1 min.; remove pan. Serve cake warm or cooled.

My husband LOVES this pineapple upside down cake. I left off the pecans and the whipped topping mix and I used the pineapple flavored cake mix instead of the yellow cake mix. It turned out great and if you didn't know Splenda now has brown sugar (my husband couldn't tell the difference)!

This was amazing! Never had it with nuts and it turned out to be a welcome addition. Everyone loved it and requested I make it again soon!

it came out beautifully and was so moist and tasty! it went so fast! i brought it to a picnic at the hollywood bowl and other people were commenting on how great it looked. i highly recommend this!

I have made it with water and then substituted the pineapple juice and I think it is moister with the water but either way it is great and my family loves it!!
