My mother has made this for years but she uses whipped heavy cream instead of sour cream.

We love this fruit salad. I make it to take to potlucks and picnics. I tried adding cut up fresh strawberries too. It was great. Just add the strawberries just before serving or everything turns pink. Nobody can believe it has sour cream in it. I even use low fat/fat free sour cream and it still tastes great .

This is a great recipe for fruit salad, but when I make it I call it ambrosia, I use canned fruit cocktail & pineapple chunks & fresh bananas & strawberries, it is a very good salad to go with alot of things.

I have made this recipe at least 100 times but I use fruit cocktail instead of pineapple. So easy to make that my 7 yr old daughter makes it. I have served it immediately after making it and still get rave reviews. Because the ingredients all last so long, I keep them on hand at all times to stretch a meal in case of unexpected company. Also great for potlucks.

Have made several times and everyone loves it. I also use less coconut and colored marshmellows when I have them. Goes over Great at our campout potlucks.
