Oat-Topped Sweet Potato Crisp

Forget the bird—this is the best thing passed around the holiday table. Brown sugar, cinnamon, cranberries and apples conspire with sweet potatoes to steal the show.

What You Need

pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened

can (40 oz.) cut sweet potatoes, drained

3/4

cup packed brown sugar, divided

1/4

tsp. ground cinnamon

Granny Smith apple, chopped

2/3

cup chopped cranberries

1/2

cup flour

1/2

cup old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats, uncooked

1/3

cup cold butter or margarine, cut into chunks

1/4

cup chopped PLANTERS Pecans

Make It

HEAT oven to 350°F.

BEAT cream cheese, potatoes, 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon with mixer until blended. Spoon into 1-1/2-qt. casserole sprayed with cooking spray; top with fruit.

MIX flour, oats and remaining sugar in medium bowl; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in nuts. Sprinkle over fruit.

BAKE 35 to 40 min. or until heated through.

This sounded different, and after reading the comments, I definitely want to try this. I am always looking for some different recipes for sweet potatoes that don't have marshmallow goo on them. I will probably use cooked fresh potatoes rather than canned ones, however.

I'd add 1/8 t. salt to the sweet potato mixture and stir the apples into the mix instead of putting them under the topping. The cream cheese was so subtle one could hardly identify the taste. I also substituted more apples for the cranbrries. Delicious

THIS RECIPE SOUNDS VERY APPEALING. SWEET POTATOES ARE SO DELICIOUS, IT'S GREAT TO HAVE A VARIETY OF RECIPES FOR THEM. I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE CREAM CHEESE IN IT THOUGH.

This recipe is definately going into the 'serve every thanksgiving' folder... For people who dont like those gooey marshmellowy sweet potatoes, this is an excellant alternative!
