I have made this same cake many times using different toppings. I usually prepare a small box of vanilla pudding and add to the whipped topping. For different occasions I have added the GF International Coffee to flavor. Last one I made for a spice cake I used Chai Latte. Let the pudding mixture set and you have a wonderful light topping.

I have not made this cake however I plan to make it in a few days. In my opinion, it doesn't make sense to use a square & a round cake pan and to assemble the pieces together to resemble a heart. I will simply use a heart shaped pan. I know my cake will be very tasty.

I used 9" pans and it worked out fine. I used a coconut cake mix...sooo good!! I also made a stencil and used that to put a darker pink colored coconut in the middle since I didn't have any redhots. It was awesome!! Oh and I had forgotten about the cool whip so I just used a whipped icing that I had on hand. Very good.

The concept was good, however it is not possible to get a square cake to rise to the level of the round. My cake came out so uneven. Even with a cake level it was a mess.
