cup flour

cup chopped green pepper

1/2

cup chopped onion

1/2

cup chopped celery

clove garlic, minced

pkg. (14 oz.) OSCAR MAYER Turkey Smoked Sausage, sliced

can (14-1/2 oz.) diced tomatoes, drained

can (14-1/2 oz.) condensed chicken broth

pkg. (10 oz.) frozen okra, thawed, sliced

small bay leaf

1/4

tsp. dried thyme leaves

1/4

tsp. salt

1/4

tsp. black pepper

1/2

lb. cleaned medium shrimp

cups hot cooked rice

Make It

MELT butter in large skillet on medium-high heat. Stir in flour. Cook 4 minutes or until golden brown, stirring frequently. Add green pepper, onion, celery and garlic; cook 2 to 3 minutes or until crisp-tender, stirring occasionally.

ADD turkey sausage, tomatoes, broth, okra, bay leaf and thyme; stir until well blended. Season with salt and black pepper. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover. Simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

STIR in shrimp; cook 5 minutes or until shrimp are opaque, stirring frequently. Remove and discard bay leaf. Spoon over hot rice.

I made this gumbo last night for my husband. He absolutely loved it!!! He works construction, and told me that this winter he would like me to make it once a week and he will take it in a thermos each day for lunch. We were both impressed. I cooked the rice in the gumbo after I added the shrimp. Next time we try it we are going to grill the sausage first for an added smoked taste. I highly recommend this recipe!

I cooked this gumbo on a sunday night after a birthday party for my 8yr. old. I was planning on serving it the next day but we couldn't wait. The aroma made everyone in the house wanting to taste it, so we did !!!!! It was delicious. It's not like the gumbo I usually make but it was quite tasty evenmore. I couldn't find condensed broth so I used condensed chicken soup and added 2cups of water. Great recipe!!!!!!!!

My husband is an incredibly picky eater, but he LOVED this gumbo! He works swing (2nd shift), so he had to re-heat, but said this is something that gets added the regular menu. The kids (age 3, 6, and 11) all enjoyed also. And, the okra doesn't get slimy!

Very easy to make! I don't care for sausage, so I substituted the sausage for scallops, and the recipe was a hit in my house. Even my husband who doesn't like okra, enjoyed it, and my 9 yr old son had 2 large helpings.

Wow!!!! That is all I can say! I made this gumbo yesterday knowing that there would be some leftovers. How much was leftover? NONE. And take a wild guess at what is being demanded for tonight.... You got to try this recipe!

This recipe was very quick to make.( A plus for my busy family) My 6 year old son enjoyed it throughly! This is a keeper.

I made this recipe for my family about 2 weeks ago and everyone loved it. I am going to make it again tonight. The only thing i did different was add chopped baby carrots for the color.

My mom made this and added some beef broth and it was awsome! There was lots of left overs and I came over every day afterwards for 3 days at lunch to eat it.

substitute shrimp with crawfish (6 lbs) add 3 cups of white wine (dry) add 2 tbs of hot sauce add 2 tbs worcestershire sauce add 6 cups of water This requires to cook it a little longer but it is worth it

Woowie!!! This is good stuff. I also tweaked the recipe - I added the jalapeno and the cajun seasoning. I also put the tomatoes thru the food processor and it maybe added a little thickness. Super good and easy! Better than the jumbo I made last time and will make it again.
