i just came across this recipe the other day in a daily newspaper we have here, and thought it would be a perfect idea for the girls at work, and whatdoyouknow, it's here on one of my favourite sites...way to go...

I too remember theese cookies from the show ZOOM ! It's great, I had a pen pal in Austraillia and actualy got to meet her ! I will try different candies next time and free form some cookies . Thanks

this is one of my all-time favorite cookie recipes from my childhood. you can use any hard candy--I used sour balls and star mints way back when--and you can get very abstract with larger cookies and smaller more detailed cut outs. You can even roll the dough into thin snakes and make outlines without using a cutter to do a freestyle cookie (just keep it cold). This was a project first introduced on the children's television show ZOOM circa 1974, out of Boston(remember ZOOM? "send it to Zoom! box 3-5-0, Boston Mass, 0-2-1-3-4, send it to Zoom!" ? )and believe it or not---ZOOM is still on the air! Just a bit of nostalgia for a rainy and glum Tuesday morning here. I have just moved and need a fun and different gift for christmas. I think that my new neighbors will love there cookie gift's. Thank you for making life fun. life may not always be easy, but at least we can make it fun.

I helped a class of children make these cookies and they turned out great. If you poke a hole at the top before baking then spray with a craft sealer thhey make wonderful tree decor that last for years.
