This is not the original Watergate salad recipe. Marshmallows ruin it, as does topping. The original recipe, handed down to me, uses lime Jell-O, mayonnaise, pineapple, cottage cheese, walnuts, evaporated milk, a little sugar and salt. Marshmallows!? Blech!

I drain off some of the juice, so the salad isn't too runny. I also add a few extra marshmallows because we love them so much!!

Its sweet but good in small doses. We used light cool whip to cut calories.

Tried this recipe for the 1st time today and OMG..its a keeper!!! Love it so much!!!

I enjoy all of the ingredients but it is a bit sweet for my family. We have always had the Ambrosia Salad. It uses similar ingredients but drained pineapple and sour cream instead of the pudding. The sour cream and pineapple seem to melt the marshmellows which we think gives just enough sweetness. I may make this again, not sure.

This was reminds me of childhood. I made it for my family and there was nothing left! Next time I will double. Very good.

This is a great tasting dish that easy to make. I love making it every holiday, and it doesn't last long after a meal with our family.
