I prefer to use canned mandarin oranges drained and maraschino cherries with some of the syrup mixed into the sour cream.

Another version of this receipe is made with unthawed Cool Whip. I have made it with fat free cool whip and taste great!

This was a big hit at 2 recent summer events we attended. It's refreshing and simple to prepare. I made sure we kept plenty for ourselves when I make this to take to a party or picnic, as I know it will be gobbled up!

Try soaking banana slices in lemon juice before adding. This will help keep the banana from turning brown.

I agree that the bananas do not last long. Not really a make ahead dish. Might try leaving the bananas out or adding them at the last minute. Like the idea of bluberries. Will try again.

I took this to a fellowship dinner at church and it was completely gone. Everyone wanted the recipe. The best part is my family really liked it to.

Always requested when I go to parties, and if you cut the bananas first and soak them in the pineapple juice a while then add them to the salad they will keep much longer! (you can also do this with apples for taffy apple salad)

This salad was pretty good - now I don't have to buy it from the deli section anymore! I skipped the grapes and used mandarin oranges and two bananas. The problem is that the bananas get gross if you don't eat the salad right away, so I had to pick them out and replace them with new bananas so that we could finish the salad.

Made this for Easter dinner and was really good. The first time everyone ate all the salad.
