Black Bottom-Banana Cream Pie

Classic diner dessert meets state fair midway treat, and a star is born. Like a chocolate-dipped banana treat, only with a crust instead of a stick.

What You Need

Tbsp. butter or margarine, divided

NILLA Wafers, finely crushed (about 1-1/4 cups)

Tbsp. sugar

pkg. (4 oz.) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, broken into pieces

large bananas, sliced

pkg. (3.4 oz.) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding

1-3/4

cups cold milk

cup thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

Make It

MELT 4 Tbsp. butter; pour into medium bowl. Stir in wafer crumbs and sugar. Reserve 2 Tbsp. for later use; press remaining crumb mixture onto bottom and up side of 9-inch pie plate.

MICROWAVE chocolate and remaining butter in microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1 min. or until butter is melted; stir until chocolate is melted and mixture is well blended. Drizzle over bottom of crust; top with bananas.

BEAT pudding mix and milk with whisk 2 min.; pour over bananas. Refrigerate 4 hours. Top with COOL WHIP and reserved crumb mixture just before serving.

I made this pie this past weekend. It didn't hold together like a pie. It just ran all over the plate. I think if you add cream cheese mixed with the pudding, it might hold together better. I used the fudge instant pudding for the chocalate & banana instant pudding. By adding the cream cheese to both I think would've held a better consistency. However, it was very good tasting.

I have to agree with "bluenile", the chocolate got too hard and was very difficult to eat. I think I would cut the chocolate in half, double the layer of bananas and use banana cream pudding instead of the vanilla for more flavor.

It's great if you are diet. After my husband and I ate one piece it sat in the refrigerator for a week until I threw it out. The chocolate gets too hard in the refrigerator and is hard to cut. The pie was not very flavorful either.

I haven't made this recipe, but I wanted to comment that it has to be delicious!. Last year, one time I had a lot of bananas that were rippened and not getting eaten. I decided to make banana cream pies. The first one, I made as normal with vanilla pudding, the second, I got creative and made chocolate pudding for the filling, it was great! That pie was gone before the other one. ( I made it traditionally with homemade crust and homemade pudding, but you could do this your way without all the fuss)
