Black Bottom-Banana Cream Pie

Classic diner dessert meets state fair midway treat, and a star is born. Like a chocolate-dipped banana treat, only with a crust instead of a stick.

What You Need

Tbsp. butter or margarine, divided

NILLA Wafers, finely crushed (about 1-1/4 cups)

Tbsp. sugar

pkg. (4 oz.) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, broken into pieces

large bananas, sliced

pkg. (3.4 oz.) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding

cups cold milk

cup thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

Make It

MELT 4 Tbsp. butter; pour into medium bowl. Stir in wafer crumbs and sugar. Reserve 2 Tbsp. for later use; press remaining crumb mixture onto bottom and up side of 9-inch pie plate.

MICROWAVE chocolate and remaining butter in microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1 min. or until butter is melted; stir until chocolate is melted and mixture is well blended. Drizzle over bottom of crust; top with bananas.

BEAT pudding mix and milk with whisk 2 min.; pour over bananas. Refrigerate 4 hours. Top with COOL WHIP and reserved crumb mixture just before serving.

This was very tasty. I used chocolate syrup instead. Added chuncks of banana. It was difficult to cut because the pudding stayed like pudding. I talked to a baker and they said to use the pudding you heat not the instant and it would set up better. Will try this next time.

My husband's new favorite dessert. He said the trick to cutting thru the layer of chocolate is to cut into the pie with the fork tines pointed down. I made this 2 weeks ago and will make it again this week. As a family of 4, we plowed thru it in a day and a half.

My kids loved this recipe! My husband thought the chocolate was a little to thick. It was hard to cut through that layer. It was very easy to make and a huge hit with my family. I will make it again for sure.

Very nice blend of flavor and texture. The chocolate was harder than I expected and the crust had to be finessed up the sides. Besides that, it was very easy to make and it was delicious.

Because we are banana lovers, I substituted banana pudding for vanilla. I also chopped up 2 bananas and stirred them into the pudding mixture rather than making a layer between the chocolate and the pudding. It was a big hit after Easter dinner and got rave reviews!
