What You Need

pkg. (4 oz. each) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, broken into pieces

1/4

cup (1/2 stick) butter

can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk

tsp. vanilla

cups flour

1/2

cup finely chopped PLANTERS Walnuts

KRAFT Caramels, cut in half

1/4

cup sugar

Make It

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Microwave semi-sweet chocolate and butter in large microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 min. or until butter is melted, stirring after 30 sec. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Blend in milk and vanilla. Add flour and walnuts; mix well. (Dough will be stiff.)

SHAPE 1 level tablespoonful of dough around each caramel half, enclosing caramel completely. Roll in sugar. Place, 1 inch apart, on ungreased baking sheets.

BAKE 6 to 8 min. or cookies are until soft and shiny. Let stand 5 min. on baking sheet. Transfer to wire racks. Cool completely. (Cookies will firm up as they cool.)

To warm cookies and soften caramel centers after cooling, microwave each cookie on HIGH 10 sec. or just until warmed.

Marshmallow Centers

Prepare as directed, substituting 48 JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows for the halved caramels.

White Chocolate Centers

Substitute 1 pkg. (6 squares) BAKER'S Premium White Baking Chocolate for the caramels. Cut each white chocolate square into eight equal chunks; set aside. Prepare dough as directed; shape 1 level tablespoon dough around each chocolate chunk. Place on baking sheets and bake as directed. Cool completely.

These were really easy to make and they turned out wonderful. I improvised by putting some candy bars in a few and my husband really liked that.

I tried them with the marshmallows. My husband loved them. I think I'll try the caramel next time.

Everyone LOVED them! My son didn't care much for the nuts but ate around them. Taste like a turtle brownie. Made them for an office luncheon, they begged later that same day for me to make them the next time we had a function. I made a handful of them with the whole caramel.

I found the dough was too dry and hard to shape around the caramels. They were OK, once cooked but nothing to write home about.

My husband loved them! I made them with marshmallows and left out the walnuts since he doesn't like nuts. I am going to try carmel next time.

These cookies were DELICIOUS when they were warm. They either need to come fresh out of the oven or reheated in the microwave, otherwise they are hard and almost lose flavor.

I just made these cookies for my kids to take to school for the teachers for V-day!!! They are great! I didnt use the nuts, because I dont know if their teachers like nuts or not. I WILL be making these again!
