cups flour

Tbsp. sugar

1-1/2

tsp. CALUMET Baking Powder

1/2

tsp. salt

1/4

cup (1/2 stick) cold butter or margarine

cups shredded CRACKER BARREL Sharp Cheddar Cheese

cup milk

egg, beaten

Make It

PREHEAT oven to 400°F. Mix dry ingredients; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cheese. Add combined milk and egg; stir just until moistened.

SPOON into greased and floured 9x5-inch loaf pan.

BAKE 45 minutes. Cool in pan 5 minutes; remove from pan. Cool completely on wire rack. Cut into 16 slices to serve.

Mexican Cheese Bread

Prepare as directed, substituting 1 pkg. (8 oz.) KRAFT Mexican Style Shredded Cheese for the shredded CRACKER BARREL Cheese and adding 1 can (4-1/2 oz.) chopped green chilies, drained, to the batter with the milk and egg.

Great Substitute

Substitute KRAFT Sharp Cheddar Cheese for the CRACKER BARREL Cheese. Or, for a quick and easy alternative, use KRAFT Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese.

This was so easy. It was ok...my son did not like it but my husband did. Very heavy, thick hearty bread. I will try again w/ some garlic as some of the others suggested.

I've made this before and it is always excellent. I add 2 teaspoons of minced jarred garlic, and I cook it in an 8x8 square pan instead of a loaf for 25 to 30 minutes. It's faster and makes it easier to pair with a simple pasta dish.

I wish i had read the last line about COOL COMPLETELY before removing it from pan, ha ha! mine fell apart. Tasted nasty--i was shocked it tasted so bad, cuz everyone rated this one so highly, and i do usually agree with the ratings here. It DID taste better when cooled, but not good exactly, but better. Maybe it was cuz i added a dab of garlic, i musta wrecked it or something...but mine wasn't good. nope.

This was quite good. I added extra cheese and some garlic to give it more flavor. I am sure it would be great toasted (it was gone before I could try). Everyone seemed to like it!

This was good. Seemed to be lacking a little something. We grilled it up with butter and garlic and had it with bbq ribs it was pretty good.

This recipe was so fast and easy. It was yummy..the whole family loved it. I was amazed on how much time it took me to make it and wonderfull it was. This is so simple. I will make this one again!

Easy and delicious! Everyone was impressed that I made homemade bread-- and it took less than an hour to make. It tastes like Red Lobster cheddar biscuits. I highly recommend it!

I absolutely loved this recipe!!! I made it for my family and we all wanted more! This was a very fast recipe to make up and I loved that I didn't have to check on it. It was ready when it said it would be. I will most definitely be making this a lot at home as well as passing it on to others =:) Thanks Kraft!
