Crunch "Bars"

These bars taste like the best crunchy brittle you've ever eaten, and no one will guess the secret ingredient - saltine crackers!

What You Need

PREMIUM Saltine Crackers

1/2

cup butter or margarine

1/2

cup packed brown sugar

pkg. (4 oz. each) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, chopped

cup chopped PLANTERS Walnuts, toasted

Make It

HEAT oven to 400ºF.

PLACE crackers in single layer in foil-lined 15x10x1-inch pan.

COOK butter and sugar in saucepan on medium-high heat until butter is melted and mixture is well blended, stirring occasionally. Bring to boil; cook 3 min. (Do not stir.) Spread onto crackers.

BAKE 5 to 7 min. or until topping is golden brown. Immediately sprinkle with chocolate; let stand 5 min. or until softened. Spread over crackers; top with nuts. Cool. Break into pieces.

Use a food processor to quickly chop the walnuts.

Variation

Prepare as directed, substituting PLANTERS Pistachio Lovers Mix for the walnuts, and topping dessert with 1/2 cup dried cranberries along with the nuts before cooling and breaking into pieces.

I didn't have saltines so I used Ritz crackers and they worked just as well or better. It's addictive - you can't eat just one!

This is my favorite treat to pass!! People ask me all the time to make it again. One suggestion: 2 sticks of butter and 1 cup of Dr.Br.Sugar and the toffee is double the pleasure! Enjoy!

I've made this recipe for years at Christmas...it's also great if you use half butterscotch (makes the bars taste like toffee) or peanut butter chips...Yummy! and so easy!

This is a favorite in our family. For a variation: instead of chopped nuts I often use a cup of Heath toffee bits. Equally delicious!

I love making these! I always add a little vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture for some extra zing! Tastes delicious with chopped up honey roasted peanuts.

I've been making this recipe for years and everyone loves it. I have made with all different flavors of chocolate (white, butterscotch, white chocolate, milk chocolate) and topped with anything from sprinkles to crushed candy canes. Everyone loves these. Great for bake sales.
