I made this for my son's birthday pool party and it was the CUTEST EVER. Used fruit roll-up pieces for beach towels and had some of the bears laying out in the sun. Also, I used the pre-mixed frosting instead of CoolWhip. Be sure and let the Jello set about half-way (should be sort of lumpy) before trying to put it in the cake. My kids will NEVER forget this. And it tasted great, too!

We made this cake for my son's 4th birthday party, which we were having at a pool. He loved this cake and it turned out so cute. We followed the quick directions and used 4 cups of ice in the jello. That turned out to be a bit too much ice as the jello never fully set in the cake. It still turned out fine though. Everyone sure thought it was a great cake! I submitted a photo, so be sure to check out the different photos to see what ours looked like.

Be sure to use the quick-set (ice cubes) method for the jello. It needs to be the consistency of egg whites BEFORE you pour it into the cake well. I've made this a few times. Last time I used vanilla pudding and made mounds with the the Kool Whip to create a "winter" scene. Marshmallows make cute snowmen! Lot's of different 'theme' possibilities.

This recipe is EXCELLENT, my grandchildren love to help, the jello does not seep though, and they use mini umbrella's and teddy grahams for the people, and push a gummy lifesaver over the teddy grahams and put the feet in the water, looks like they are floating, we also use a cookie for a diving board, and tiny sweet tarts for a "deep end" marker. LOVE IT!!

This is to poppysr, What if you frosted the cut-out area and put down fruit rull-ups then poured the jello in. I think that would help the liquids from seeping through. I haven't tried i but I am going to try it soon for my family bbq. If anyone trys my idea leave a comment on how well it worked.

This cake was very fun to make, the only thing about it was the jell-o did not set as I expected so I improvised with ready made blue jell-o, this made the pool have some waves in it and actually looked more cool! the blue jell-o absorbed into the cake and made it very moist. My son loved it and said it was better than a store bought cake :)

I made this for my daughter's b-day and when I brought the cake out the kids eyes popped out of their heads when they saw it! They all loved it! It was fun to decorate, too.
