This recipe is soooo good. I agree it can end up tasting too sweet and cheap, like it came off of the school lunch menu. The trick is to add hot sauce! It seriously improves the dish by a thousand percent. I like to add Emeril's Kick it up a Notch hot sauce, but any kind of hot sauce would probably work. And if you think it's too watery, let it boil just a little longer before you remove it from the heat.
