Beautiful Butterfly Cake

I made this and a famly member took a chunck out of the top of one of the wings so it had rounded wings on top and at the bottom. I thought it looked better that way.

What You Need

pkg. (2-layer size) yellow cake mix

1/3

cup raspberry jam

OREO Cookies

tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed, divided

Food coloring

cup fruit-flavored sweetened rice cereal

Decorations: assorted ring-shaped hard candies and Mini OREO Bite Size Chocolate Sandwich Cookies

Make It

PREPARE cake batter and bake in two 9-inch round baking pans as directed on package. Cool 10 min.; remove to wire racks. Cool completely.

CUT cakes crosswise in half. Spread two of the cake halves with jam; top with remaining two cake halves to form two stacks. To assemble, arrange cookies in center of large board or tray with edges slightly overlapping to form the "butterfly's body," securing cookies to each other with small amount of the whipped topping. Arrange cake stacks around body to resemble the butterfly's wings.

TINT remaining whipped topping with food coloring as desired. Spread onto cakes. Decorate with whipped topping, cereal, candies and cookies. Store in refrigerator.

Variation

For a refreshing citrus cake, prepare as directed using lemon cake mix and substituting orange marmalade for the raspberry jam.

Substitute

Substitute any flavor cake mix for the yellow cake mix.

I made this cake for a neighborhood cookout and it was the hit of the party! I used a strawberry cake mix and instead of using the jam for the filling I just spread additional cool whip and used fresh strawberries in the middle.......yum-yum.......it was gone in a flutter.......:-)

I made this for a girl's birthday cake and decorated it differently. She loved it!!! (as did everyone who ate some)

Super easy and everybody loved it!! I would make this again and again. My daughter had a great time helping me decorate it. Great conversation piece.

I searched long and hard to try and find just the right cake for my son's first birthday and I made a super choice when I decided on this one! It was very simple to do and very cute! All my guests raved at how complicated it looked, and I just smiled. I did however use strawberry preserves instead of the raspberry, I used applesauce in the cake mix instead of oil, I used fat free cool whip, and I decorated with fruity pebbles, baby oreo's, and colored sugar crystals. This is a great recipe!

I made this cake and it was so simple and easy and delicious. The instructions were clear and it turned out beautiful as the name implies. When I presented it to my guests they were really impressed with it and they loved the taste. I plan on serving it again and again

I thought it was delicious and so did the kids and our guest. i would most def make if again. it's not only delicious but colorful and full of different flavors.
