I added a chopped onion and garlic to the sausage while frying. The recipe would be rather bland for my families taste as is. It was very easy to prepare and looked beautiful. Very tasty. I used the pepperoni instead of the ham.

Try adding 1/4 cup smoked bacon, fat removed and diced into 1/4-inch cubes and 1/2 Cup each of fresh baby portabella mushrooms - aka portobellos, vadalia sweet onion and frozen spinach. I sliced the mushrooms and cut the onions into strips and sauteed them with the spinach in real butter with fresh cracked pepper & a pinch of kosher salt before adding them to the pie filling.

I almost didn't make this because of the word 'pizza'. This recipe is so much more! I added frozen, chopped spinach (drained & lightly cooked) and served a seasoned tomato pure on the side. This is a new, family favorite.
