My husband really likes canned refried beans--I do not share his enthusiasm. So I tried this recipe tonight. I did use about 25% more tomato and green onions, and put this directly into the bean/cheese mixture. Also added a bit of unsalted butter (due to a reviewer). It turned out a little less like lead. And if I have to eat refried beans again, I would repeat this recipe!!!

The extra ingredients give the beans a better flavor!

I've also always added a pat of butter to my beans when they are warming on the stove. It adds remarkably to the flavor and I get compliments on my refried beans whether I continue to "dress" them up or not. Not exactly low-cal but sure is good.

I always make refried beans when having Tacos. I made this recipe and everyone was impressed with the addition of the cheese and tomatoes. We'll definately make it this way from now on.

For even more flavor, melt some bacon grease in skillet and heat can of beans that way...YUMMY!
