Bottom line is that these are very good. Mine did not rise as well as I would have hoped but they were not totally flat either. I used butter instead of shortening which may be a contributing factor to the lack of rise.

I want to try this,can I just use self-rising flour and cut out the baking powder and salt?

First time I made these, I rolled them to thin & they made great hockey pucks. The next time I made them, I didn't roll them out, but made rolled balls in my hand, making sure they were thick enough & pu the butter on them before & after cooking. They were really good. Had a great taste, will make this alot.

I love biscuits. And saw this recipe i had to make them. I'm glad I did because they're so so good. I make them all the time.

Wonderful! Very easy to make - my four year old had a blast helping me cut the biscuits out, and was so proud to see the ones he made being eaten. Pair them with summer ripened tomatoes and a little miracle whip....it doesn't get much better!
