I didn't have onions so I just used peppers and I ate it without bread. It was delicious!

How about using low fat mozzarella and low salt tomato sauce with some Italian spices? I don't get 1000 mg of salt all day in my food!!

Try substituting Pepper Jack for the American cheese; even my youngest loved it.

I don't eat red meat so this is right up my alley. I mix ranch bbq and ranch for the chicken, it's delicious. Ibelieve they even sell a ranch dressing in the stores. My kids are ranch crazy so I mixed a little with the bbq sauce. Also you can try different cheeses (ie:swiss) the only thing I had to delete is the pepers. I'm the only one who likes them.

Wonderful dish, i put my chicken, veggies, and toasted the buns all on the grill. Quick, easy clean-up. Throw in some store bought fruit salad and you're off for a picnic.

For such a super simple recipe, this was EXCELLENT. For each sandwich I used a large (3 oz.) submarine roll, 3 oz. of deli-rotisserie chicken (topped with some BBQ sauce), 2 slices of Kraft American Cheese Singles, and a bit more onion and pepper than the recipe stated. Once they were assembled I nuked them until the cheese melted. Each of these was a meal by itself--no need for side dishes!!!

Leave out the barbeque sauce, use a little Italian dressing(low fat) and fat free cheese( used kraft cheddar). Serve on rolls or tortillas. They were great. Much lower in fat and salt.
