People who complain about the amount of salt could use half the cheese package and use regular cheddar cheese. That cuts down on the salt. I tried it and it works. I also used red kidney beans once when I didn't have peas.

Since my kids are not fond of peas, I put broccoli as some others suggested. Next time, I will cut up the broccoli much smaller. All in all...a quick, very easy dish that even the kids liked.

I substituted noodles alfredo for the mac and cheese and added the other ingrediants plus a pinch of dill for a nice variation.

I have been making a version of this for years. If you use a can of cream of celery soup in place of the sour cream, it adds extra flavor. I have also used Spam instead of the ham and added diced tomatos and they both work too.

This was definately one of the fastest meals to put together. I'm not sure about the amount of sour cream.....I did double the recipe to have leftovers and subsituted corn for the peas like others had suggested and not quite sure about that. I would make it again, but not for a while.
