I made this cake last year and also carved it into a Mater look-alike. I carved another cake into Lightening McQueen and another one into Lightning McQueen's girlfriend. It was an all "Cars" theme. All the kids enjoyed it and the adults thought it was pretty cool too. The cake itself was too sweet, so I next time I will make my own cake instead of buying the Sara Lee lb. cake.

ZACHSYD I'd like to see a picture of the "Mater" cake you did. My son LOVES Cars and his b-day is coming up soon. I think I may try to do it myself.

I used this recipe to make "Mater" from the movie Cars. Very easy. I used chocolate frosting, died white frosting (not the cool whip, too drippy) green and blue. Used Oreo cokkies for tires, pretzels and licorice for the tow cable. I also used assorted candies for the eyes, headlights etc.

so quick and easy to do! if you want the RED for the firetruck have a couple bottles of coloring on hand.

I made this for my boyfriend, and I changed it a bit. Instead of cool whip I used vanilla frosting and food coloring. and I used mini chocolate donuts for the tires. Also instead of putting the hose on the top i wrote out happy birthday...it came out great and everyone loved it!

I made this for my son's birthday. I decided to use strawberry coolwhip so it would be easier to turn it red. I used my entire red coloring & it still turned out pink. Otherwise it looked just like the picture & tasted good too.

The firetruck looked just like the pic! Everyone at the party loved it and told me it looked so good. They though I had it professionally done!
