I find that baking the seeded, halved squash for about 30 minutes and letting it cool before adding to the pot cuts some time. Also substituted mild curry & fresh ginger (to taste) for the allspice.

I found this recipe to be incredibly bland. I was highly disappointed at the way it turned out. I had to add a lot of brown sugar, cinnamon, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract just for it to be managable to eat. I would not recommend this recipe nor will I be making it again.

This recipe was wonderful on a rainy day. I substituted the 1/8tsp nutmeg for the allspice. It was delicious

My husband and I enjoyed this recipe. We had had a similar soup at a restaraunt that carried the name of a famous chef in Las Vegas and I was excited when I found this recipe to taste almost identical.

This is a great receipe, but there are two ingrediants I added which helped in flavor. First I added 1/2 cup of dried apricots in the soup which sweetens the soup. I also topped the soup with chopped bacon, this gives a great smokey flavor.

I had never tried cooking Butternut Squash before but have seen or heard about simple recipes which I wanted to try. Well, I'm so glad I tried this one! It is very simple to make and the soup is fantastic! When cooking, I keep my friends and/or family in mind as I like to share new dishes with them. After preparing this soup I shared the recipe with my sister and told her that I will prepare it again but this time, for my neices. I know they'll really like the hint of sweetness the allspice adds. Thank you for posting this fabulous recipe!

This soup was very good. It was easy to make as well. I substituted cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves for the allspice. (b/c I didn't have any allspice.) Next time I won't put in as much ground cloves - it's too overpowering. Otherwise, the soup was good and I will try it again.

I didnt add the sour cream or all spice but did add bacon and apples.It still seemed like it was missing something missing,although that was proably the spices I didnt use. It still turned out great. I would make it again and add the stuff I didnt.
