I added extra cinnamon to the pear layer and substituted walnuts for the almonds. Next time I make it, I'll use less sugar in the pear layer. In my oven, which may run cool, I had to cook the tarte about 20 minutes longer than suggested, but that may be because I think I added more pears than in the recipe (I didn't measure, so am not sure). The guests we had over loved it. I think it would also be good with some raisins in the pear layer.
