Apple Crumble

Apple Crumble recipe

The cool whip topping is a great addition. Especially when it is hot.

I have made this several times and I always get the same reviews. My friends seem to float on air as they eat this. Always saying how yummy it is!

The first time I tried this recipe, the topping got too done, with the apples not done. Covered the dish and cooked longer. There was also too much topping and not enough apples. Tried the recipe again adjusting the pan size to a 8x8 glass pan. Still too much topping. If I were to make this again I might try doubling the apples and use a 9.5x 15.5

I would not make it in the small portions again as it did not have enough juice although I added some water.

This was delicious! But you definitely need to use red apples and not green. I used green apples and mine was pretty tart. I had to bake mine a little longer than recommended in order for the topping to get crispy.

Pending on taste... One does not need the nut flavored spread (hard to find). Add some finely chopped nuts of choice. I added pecans and also added a bit more cinnamon than called for. Worked very well. If you like Granny Smiths (I do), go for it...

I used sugar the first time I made it. The second time, I used Splenda. It tasted GREAT both times!
