pkg. (2-layer size) chocolate cake mix

pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened

egg

Tbsp. sugar

can (20 oz.) cherry pie filling, divided

1-1/2

cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

Make It

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Prepare cake batter as directed on package; set aside. Mix cream cheese, egg and sugar until well blended.

REMOVE 3/4 cup of the pie filling for garnish; set aside. Spoon 2 Tbsp. of the cake batter into each of 24 paper-lined medium muffin cups. Top each with 1 Tbsp. each of the cream cheese mixture and remaining pie filling. Cover evenly with remaining cake batter.

BAKE 20 to 25 min. or until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Cool 5 min.; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely. Top cupcakes with whipped topping and remaining pie filling just before serving.

This was a huge hit!!! I took it to a family reunion, and everyone wished I had made more. I also made some for my boyfriend to take to work - people who didn't get any heard about it from the people who did. For Christmas, I think I will put green food coloring in the cool whip - with the red cherries, it will be a colorful treat for Christmas and for my boyfriend to take to work.

I used choclate icing instead of coolwhip and it was very good, I also made it a second time with strawberries. :)

This was a super hit with family and friends on my husbands B'day. I used strawberry filling instead of cherry and after having read the reviews I chose to use a tsp each of the cream cheese and the pie filling and that saw me through 24 servings with out running out of the pie filling.It is really easy and a great recipe.

Awesome, awesome - melt -in-your-mouth blend! This recipe was so easy to make. I took them to a church bake sale and both children and adults raved about the yummy blend! Thanx Kraft! As an alternative (because I ran out of ckae mix), I but crushed some oreo cookies, topped with a spoonful of cherrie pie filling, dabbed some whip cream, and topped with a cherry. Presto! Black forest dessert with a CRUNCH!
