The first time my Mom made this recipe was July 4th 1976. We all LOVED it!! That day it got dubbed "Bicentennial Cake" and that's what our family has called it ever since. It was also my requested type of birthday cake for many years. My Mom would put a little milk and vanilla instant pudding mix in with the Cool Whip, though. I don't really see that particular mixture in most of the Poke Cake recipes anymore, but try it! It makes a HEAVENLY icing!!!!
