Graduation Cap Cupcakes

What You Need

pkg. (2-layer size) yellow cake mix

env. KOOL-AID Orange Flavor Unsweetened Soft Drink Mix

cup (1/2 of 7-oz. tub) BAKER'S Dark Semi-Sweet Dipping Chocolate, melted

HONEY MAID Honey Grahams, broken crosswise in half (24 squares)

cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

chewy fruit snack rolls, any color

jelly beans

Make It

HEAT oven to 350ºF.

PREPARE cake batter as directed on package. Blend in drink mix; spoon into 24 lined muffin cups. Bake 20 to 25 min. or until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean; cool completely. Meanwhile, spread 1 tsp. melted chocolate onto each graham square to completely cover top; place on baking sheet. Refrigerate until firm.

REMOVE liners from cupcakes; place cupcakes upside-down on plate. Use wooden spoon handle to poke deep hole in center of each cupcake. Spoon COOL WHIP into resealable plastic bag. Snip one corner from bottom of bag; pipe COOL WHIP into holes and onto tops of cupcakes, reserving small amount of COOL WHIP for later use. Top cupcakes with grahams, chocolate-sides up, to resemble graduation caps.

USE fruit rolls to make tassels for caps. (See Tip.) Add 1 tassel and jelly bean to top of each graham square, securing each with dab of remaining COOL WHIP. Keep refrigerated.

Variation

For a black-and-white graduation, spread half of grahams with additional COOL WHIP instead of the melted chocolate. Line up different-colored caps in alternating rows.

How to Make Tassels

Cut fruit snack rolls into 24 pieces. Cut 3/4-inch slits at one short end of each piece to resemble fringe. Tightly roll up lengthwise to make tassel.

This recipe idea was easy and fun to make. I went a step further and dipped the graham squares in white chocolate that was tinted blue and then used blue used blue fruit strings for the tassels and blue m&m's for the button that holds on the tassel. They were a very big hit at the grad party!

I thought these were so cute until I made them. Thankfully a previous rater, said to use frosting instead of cool whip. Also chocolate Graham carackers would work better, coating the graham crackers is not only messy to do but melts easily. It took forever to make the tassles, however they looked great. I used a white cake mix with the rainbow colors in it, and everyone loved them. Took a whole lot of work, 3 hours to make 44 of them!!! Don't know if I would do it again. Maybe with the chocolate graham crackers.

Made these for our preschoolers graduation reception and the children loved them! I recommend using an M&M for the button, Sour Straws cut to the desired length for the tassle and packaged chocolate covered graham crackers for convenience. Thanks for providing something really cute and easy!

My 5-year old graduated from Pre-K. These were a big hit with the kids & parents. Fairly easy to make until we got to the tassels.

My 4 year old graduated and as the class mom I decided to make something for the little ones that would not only put smiles on their faces, but be a memory for their parents as well. The recipe was great...I followed eveything, but found the tassel making more than difficult, so I opted for the Twizzler pull strings instead and thy worked out just a well. I added a little extra flair, by encasing them in individual clear/colored plastic baggies and used ribbon as a tie...it looks so worked so well it enabled the kids to take it home without messing up their beautiful outfits. Moms and dads alike have huge raves. The teachers even asked me where do I get these awesome ideas...I just say Kraft and they ohh and ahh. Well if you want to make a lasting memory for everyone alike this is the "show me off" recipe. Thanks Kraft for making me the talk of the graduation...and my daughter the coolest pre-schooler.
