I've never been able to get crust to come out well. This was perfect! I filled it with blueberry and all enjoyed and wanted more.

I forgot this in my last review. I used butter flavored crisco instead of lard. While it still has 0.5 g of trans fat per serving, it's better than lard! I wonder how these would do baked in the oven, since I fried them??

Super easy recipe, I substituted veg oil for the lard. Dough was left greasy, I sprinkled flour (on greasy dough)and mixed until it became more "dough like". I then added my favorite fillers (sweet potato, apple) you can also use strawberry and blueberries or whatever you like. Cooked for 18 min. It was a big hit with my kids! I took some to a family party and it was a big hit there too! I definitely recommend this recipe. I will definitely make this again!

I've been looking for empanada dough and I've never been disappointed with the recipes on this site.. but is there a substitute for lard? Lard is 100% transfat :(

ni les cuentoo me quedaronnn pero de rechupete las hize en dos variaciones de pollo y con relleno de carne aun me falta por probar las dulces besos y gracias por la receta

I would make more dough for the empanada recipe...or maybe not stuff them with so much stuff!

I made two variations of this recipe, 1. filled with ground beef and 2. the sweet version omitting the salt and adding sugar and filled them with cherry and apple pie filling.. then made a simple glaze and drizzled it over them ... mmmmmm (didnt need the lard, but used it anyway! tasty!)
