Excellent recipe and one I've enjoyed for several years now. A must for the holidays! I've also added andies candies baking pieces and it's a great twist, but would recommend using parchment paper on the bottom of the baking pans along with some cooking spray.

Made this cake in 2010 for Christmas dinner. It was a Huge Hit. Plan to make this cake an annual Christmas tradition.

I made this for my Chrismas Eve b-day party.Everyone said when they bite into it you would get a taste of the chocolate,the crushed pepermint or both. Every Christmas season I get a request for this cake.We all thoughly enjoyed it.

the cake was moist and delicious but it would have been better if the candy canes were omitted from inside the cake batter

I thought putting the extra chocolate in the batter made the cake too chocolaty. And it was hard for me to crush the candy canes. As hard as I tried, I could not get my cake to look like the picture, lol.

Excellent cake. Used peppermint extract instead of peppermint candy canes. Also, used mini chocolate chips instead of the baker's chocolate. Cream cheese frosting. Worked wonderfully.
