Its tastes about as good as it looks. For a little punch of extra color, I added some mint leaves to the top. Yumm Yumm

This was good for a boxed cake mix base. I didn't think the cool whip would be enough of a frosting but the cake is so rich and heavy the light frosting is nice. I didn't like the crunchy peppermint on top so next time I'll put more in the cake mix and leave it at that.

My children loved this cake! The next time I make it I'm going to use chocolate shavings on the frosting instead of the peppermint. I'm not a big peppermint fan.

I first saw this recipe in an e-mail and then on the cover of my Kraft Food & Family. I knew I had to try it! It was wonderful.

I thought the cake had a very good taste to it. The only thing I would do differently is line the bottom of my pans with parchment paper as the peppermints you put in the cake batter caused the cake to stick to the pans.

I loved this recipe but changed the frosting too. Cool Whip has to be kept refrigerated. A 7 minute frosting worked just fine.

Please explain what the whipped topping "mixture "is. I see nothing except cool whip.

I actually changed the icing on this recipe and it was great. I made a 7-minute white meringue frosting and decorated it with the crushed candy canes. It was a trial run before the holidays and it was very good. Everyone loved it.

I first noticed this when I received my Food & Family magazine and wanted to check the website because I thought I had missed something. What is the "whipped topping mixture" ??? There are no instructions on what goes into this 'mixture' ! Surely you can't frost a cake with a tub of thawed whipped topping?! Should powdered sugar be added or what? Thanks --
