After making this recipes several times, it definately is better to my family and friends when I use peppermint extract and regular icing(usually cream cheese). The peppermint extract adds even more flavor than the actual candy canes and the regular icing makes for easier cutting and no sliding around.
The recipe came out great and one that everyone enjoyed! I added a little more candy cane and no semi-sweet chocolate. I made the cake the night before and frosted and decorated it the next day. Very easy to make.
This was a REALLY good cake. It looked awesome! We couldn't taste the peppermint in the cake - I think you may need to add peppermint extract. I agree with other reviewers that it's difficult to cut - the whipped cream just makes the layers slide. But I think a different icing would be too flavorful and would take away from the fabulous-ness of the cake itself! My family RAVED about it and I'll definitely make this again.
This recipe was in instant hit. I have already made it for two christmas parties, and I will be making it for a third time tomorrow~
I made this cake last year. I used Semi-sweet chocolate chips instead of baker's chocolate. It was very good, but the candy cane pieces were a little hard to eat. The next time I make it I will definitely make the candy cane pieces much much smaller.
I really liked the cake and so did my husband. I made a few changes. Instead of using crushed candy canes, I used a tsp. of peppermint extract. I also bought milk chocolate chunks instead of the bakers chocolate. I used cream cheese icing instead of the whip topping. The cake was moist. I am making it again but as cupcakes for christmas.
I made this cake last year for a christmas party. This cake was really really good...but other than the fact that they told you to put the chocolate chunks in the cake and to me, they taste awful! Everybody in the party sayed they love it just not the chocolate chunks! Im making it again this year just not with the chunks!
Yummo!!! So easy to make. It was the hit of the dinner. Will most definitely make again ... and again!
Amazing! I used homeade icing instead of the Cool-Whip. Everyone loved it!
It's very elegant and fancy. Extremely tasty and a recipe that impressed my mother-in law. Thank you.
