Quick-Fix Beef and Rice

How quick is this creamy ground beef and rice casserole? Just 5 minutes to prep and half an hour until it's ready to serve.

What You Need

lb. lean ground beef

cups frozen peas

2/3

cup (1/2 of 10-3/4-oz. can) condensed cream of celery soup

1/4

cup milk

clove garlic, minced

1/2

tsp. dried thyme leaves

2-2/3

cups hot cooked instant white rice

cup KRAFT Shredded Cheddar & Monterey Jack Cheeses

Make It

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Brown meat in large skillet; drain. Stir in peas, soup, milk, garlic and thyme. Bring just to boil.

SPREAD meat mixture onto bottom of 8-inch square baking dish. Top with rice; sprinkle with cheese.

BAKE 10 min. or until cheese is melted.

For extra zip, stir 1/4 cup ketchup into the meat mixture along with the peas, soup, milk, garlic and thyme.

Creative Leftovers

Place leftover condensed soup in tightly covered container; refrigerate up to 2 days. Prepare as directed on label, using 2/3 cup water or milk.

This recipe was so easy and good...but i thought it needed something...so I diced up a clove of garlic and added it to the soup......It was perfect!!!! We all thought it was so good!!! The garlic really added some zing to it!!!!

I was checking out the menu for this week and read the comments posted for this recipe. It sounds a little bland, my family is not big on peas either, especially frozen ones. I cook a similar recipe that mixes a can of tomato soup, and a can of cut green beans in with the beef. Then, instead of rice, use already prepared instant mashed potatoes and cover with cheddar. Bake for 20-30 minutes. The potatoes turn orange when you get it on your plate, so it doesn't always look appealing, but it is very good, I've never met a kid who didn't like it once they tasted it, even the REALLY picky ones!

OUR HOUSE 'hates' PEAS. HAS ANYONE USED BROCOLI FLOWERETTES OR FROZEN CORN? FROM OTHER REVEIWS I WOULD "spice" IT UP A BIT. EITHER FULL CAN TOMATO SOUP no WATER OR A CAN >12oz. CHOPPED TOMATOS. ANY OTHER IDEAS???????????????? thanks>>>>> NO PEAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reading other reviews and then making and tasting this recipie for myself, I would absolutely agree with the need to spice it up a bit. As is it is OK. My family ate it without complaint. Next time I will make my rice with some beef boulion to add some flavor.

The reason I would make this recipe again is because I would make it differently, the suggestion for adding ketchup is close. I would add a can of tomato soup, no liquid, worcestershire, and garlic powder or salt to the meat mixture rather than trying to confuse the meat flavor with too many spices or sauces.

I substituted ground turkey for the ground beef & added extra spices. My family loved it!! I will definatlly make this one again!

I added a TON of different spices,seasonings...it was still overall, a very bland meal. My family has vetoes this one on the "remake" list.

Very easy and tasty. I've made this several times. This has become a standy by at our house for a tasty quick entree that uses just a few common ingredients and a dish that can be quickly prepared. I use low fat soup, ground beef, milk and cheese instead.Usually serve with side salad and fruit or dessert. Even the grandchildren liked it.

I would make this again but I would definitely put onion or something in it. Really bland taste.
