I mixed this recipe with 2 ingredents from the other one, beef boulion and italian dressing to taste...I also added most of bbq sauce at end to taste.Put some other sasonings we enjoy also. I think I am going to top it with bisc. and bake...maybe will taste like a pot pie.
I substituted beans for peas and wild duck for the beef. It was delicious and my whole family raved about it. So glad to have another recipe for my hunting husband.
I used one can of beef broth and frozen peas (as the picture shows) but ended up having a little too much liquid. I had to thicken (flour and water)for a decent gravy. My dinner actually looked just like the picture and tasted pretty good!
Ok, I was ready to give this recipe a bad review, I didn't love it, thought the meat was dry and bland. I almost didn't feed it to my kids thinking they wouldn't like it either. However, I gave it to them and they LOVED it. My normally picky 4 year old ate the entire plate, that hasn't happened in...well, 4 years! I didn't add the instant coffee and I served it with a side of broccoli instead of peas, since my kids don't like peas. I added way more BBQ sauce than it called for too. I think I might try it again and this time not browning the meat prior...maybe that will help with the dry/bland taste?
It was good, the sauce could use more flavor- probably some salt and pepper would do it. The meat had great flavor though. I had to thicken up the sauce a bit, and I used green beans which worked well. I would definately make it again and maybe add some bell peppers to the mix.
thanks for sharing - my family loved this meal - my husband took the left overs for lunch and had his co-workers asking what is the awesome smell? THANKS AGAIN
made it with a pot roast instead. great alternative to the regular pot roast recipe!
sort of bland; I need to figure out how to make it more flavorful for next time.
Making it again tonight! My family loved this.
I substituted 8 ounces of brewed coffee for the instant. There was not an excess of liquid by any means. This has the expected definite barbecue taste and is delicious. I will make it again.
