What You Need

pkg. (19.5 oz.) brownie mix

1/4

cup (1/2 stick) butter, cut up

oz. (1/2 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, cubed

1/2

cup firmly packed brown sugar

cup BAKER'S ANGEL FLAKE Coconut

cup PLANTERS Pecan Pieces

Make It

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Prepare brownie mix as directed on package for cake-like brownies. Pour batter into greased 13x9-inch baking pan.

PLACE butter and cream cheese in small saucepan; cook on medium heat until cream cheese is completely melted and mixture is well blended, stirring frequently. Stir in brown sugar. Add coconut and pecans; mix well. (Mixture will be thick.) Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over brownie batter in pan.

BAKE 30 min. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 1 hour. Store leftover cake in the refrigerator.

Make cleanup easier by lining baking pan with foil before using. To easily remove the baked cake from pan, extend foil beyond sides of pan. Then use the foil as handles to remove the cake from the pan.

The first time I made it I did not like it very much thought is was too dry. The next time I made it I did not do the cake like mix and left it like a brownie it tasted great!

Not good at all. Don't know why all the positive comments. Very dry, doesn't taste anything like german chocolate cake :(

Wonderful!! I added all the ingredients into the batter and it tasted like divine german chocolate cake! I have made this over and over because everyone keeps asking for it!

I made this recipe for my birthday, and it was a great hit. I used a chewy brownie mix, I also put half of the batter in the pan first. With the cream cheese mixture I mixed the other ingredients well and added this to the rest of the batter in the bowl and muxed it very well, then this mixture was added to the batter in the pan.The results was a very moist more moist and chewy like a brownie. My husband really liked it,considering he does not like chocolate. It was the german chocolate taste. I WILL DEFINITLY MAKE THIS AGAIN

I was very disapointed the way the cake came out. The pecan/coconut mixture was hard, the batter was not enough to fill a 13x9 inch baking dish and the chocolate taste was way too strong for my taste. And there is absolutely nothing German about this cake.
