Perfect Winter Beef Stew

Perfect Winter Beef Stew recipe

"Tasty" barely begins to describe this stew. With savory beef, rich bacon, veggies and hearty potatoes, "perfect" is a much closer word.

This is an absolutely wonderful beef stew recipe. I have made it many times and it has replaced my "from mom" beef stew recipe!

I will definitely make this recipe in my slow cooker again. I followed the recipe exactly then added a nice grind of black pepper and 1/2 c. of dry red wine to give it some extra zip. I also substituted OM Turkey Bacon for the regular bacon to eliminate some of the fat. I served it with a traditional Ceasar Salad. The mushrooms give the stew interesting texture. Yummy!!

I guess I'm just used to foods with more taste. There is no spices or anything to give it much taste, even after adding the 1/2 t. thyme. Just have better recipes for beef stew.

This is the best stew recipe I have come across. It is one of my husbands favorite dishes. I made it for company and there was none left, so you may want to double up the recipe. Leftovers are great also, or you can freeze it for lunches.

I have made this recipe several times for my sons when they would come for dinner. It was always a big hit. Along with a green salad and french bread there wasn't much for leftovers

I took out the bacon and mushrooms. I subbed the stewed tomatoes with italian stewed tomatoes. The extra flavor is really good! We make this stew alot!

"Yummy in my tummy" is what my grandson says when I fix this for dinner. I can count on not having any leftovers when I cook this.
