I've made one very similar and no matter what you put in from the produce your family likes it's bound to be excellent. Be sure the cabbage you use is COOKED enough, though, so it'll be less gas-prone. It's much better for my tender stomach with LESS tomato and a splootch of lemon juice.
One thing -- start out with a quarter amount of seasoning the first time and add to taste. Even if you wind up using the full amount, that's fine -- you've just saved yourself a lovely pot of nourishing soup if your family needs something milder, and Kraft sold the package anyway.
Experiment with different flavors -- after all, it's just well-cooked salad in hot water!
Since there are no raw meat/eggs/whathaveyou, you can taste it at any stage, another nice bonus. Do this with every drastic change to the veg content when you make it again (and you will, it's one of the very best soups around).
