cups water

cup instant grits

cup KRAFT Shredded Cheddar Cheese

slices OSCAR MAYER Bacon, chopped

lb. medium shrimp, peeled, deveined

green onions, thinly sliced (about 1/3 cup)

clove garlic, minced

Tbsp. chopped parsley

Tbsp. lemon juice

Make It

BRING water to boil in medium saucepan. Add salt. Slowly stir in grits. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover. Cook 7 min. or until thickened. Stir in cheese; set aside.

MEANWHILE, cook bacon in large skillet on medium-heat heat until crisp. Drain on paper towels; set aside. Add shrimp, onions and garlic to skillet; cook and stir 3 min. or until shrimp turn pink. Add bacon, parsley and lemon juice; mix well.

SERVE shrimp mixture over grits.

How to Devein Raw Shrimp

To devein raw shrimp, first remove the outer shell. Then make a lengthwise shallow cut on the outer curve of the shrimp to expose the black vein. Loosen the vein with the tip of a sharp knife, then pull with your fingers to remove.

cooked grits in chicken broth added touch of creole seasoing and hotsauce to shrimp. My new orleans born hubby loved it

This was very good but being a southern girl it wasn't quite spicy enough for me. Next time I make it I'll be sure to "kick it up a notch"

This was one of the best yet! I doubled the garlic and used a regular onion and it was great.

This is EXCELLENT! However, like others have mentioned, the grits to water ratio is way off. Granted, I cut the recipe in half since I was only making it for myself, but I didn't have a problem w/ any of the other ingredients except these two. But in the end, I made it work and it came out excellent. I'll definitely be making this again!

The shrimp were phenomenal. The grits to water proportion is way off though. We cooked them stovetop but they never thickened properly. We decided to start over and toss some in the microwave and go from there...those were excellent. Had the grits not been yucky based on the directions this would definitely be a five star recipe. My 3 year old asked for thirds and my 6 year old said it was "beyond super." That has to be out of this world.
