I've made this several times for friends and family. I treat it like a "dessert bar". With side dishes of different nuts, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and extra bananas; everyone can have it how they like!
I have found that if I reverse the banana/pineapple combination from the recipe (banana first then pineapple), the juice from the pineapple helps preserve the bananas from getting brown.
