Chocolate Cream Ornament Cake

Bringing dessert? Knock their socks off with a deceptively easy cream-cheese-frosted chocolate cake, beautifully decorated for the season. Now that's how you deck the halls.

What You Need

pkg. (2-layer size) chocolate cake mix

pkg. (3.9 oz.) JELL-O Chocolate Instant Pudding

pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened

cup powdered sugar

1-1/2

cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

ice cream cone

piece red string licorice (2 inch)

Decorating gel

Colored sugar

Make It

HEAT oven to 350°F.

PREPARE cake batter and bake as directed on package for 2 (9-inch) round cake layers, blending dry pudding mix into batter before pouring into prepared pans. Cool cakes in pans 10 min.; remove to wire racks. Cool completely.

BEAT cream cheese and powdered sugar in large bowl with mixer until well blended. Gently stir in COOL WHIP. Stack cake layers on plate, spreading 1/3 of the cream cheese mixture between layers. Frost top and side of cake with remaining cream cheese mixture.

POKE 2 small holes in bottom of ice cream cone; insert ends of licorice into holes, leaving small loop at top. Place next to cake to resemble ornament hanger. Decorate cake with decorating gel and colored sugar as desired. Keep refrigerated.

This was quite a bit of fun to make. I did a yellow mix w/vanilla pudding. This dessert was the hit of a holiday party. Everyone raved about how beautiful it was along with being delicious. Decorating was very quick and easy so I know this will be one of my favorite holiday desserts to prepare.

This was an excellent cake and a fabulous showpiece. Easy to make and great fun to decorate. I enjoyed making it and all enjoyed eating.

This idea can be used for other occasions - for a pumpkin, a clown face, a clock (getting older - another year, etc), even a basket ball for celebrating a win. Use one's imagination or a template is all you need. Adding this to my cake collection

I love creme cheese and think I would love this but I sure couldn't decorate it like it is.
